Foreign Tourist visits to Bulgaria up Significantly
Foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria are up by 16.6% for the first five months of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007. The Chair of Bulgaria's State Agency for Tourism Aneliya Krushkova announced the numbers last week. The new statistics show that Bulgaria’s popularity for international visitors and investors continues to be strong.
The greatest percentage increases recorded are in the number of Romanians visiting Bulgaria. They are followed by Serbs, Macedonians, and Russians. Romania borders Bulgaria to the north, and Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey are to the west and south. Krushkova also announced that the World Tourist Organization ranked Bulgaria 39th in the world by the number of foreign tourists it attracted in 2007.
This summer the travel agencies expect at least 12% growth in the number of foreign tourists in Bulgaria and 60% of them will come from the EU member states. With the current increases in visits, the summer should easily meet and exceed predictions. In the last four years the country has gained popularity because of its luxurious hotels, unconventional tourist offers and the attractive venues.
The top tourist destination in Bulgaria is the coastline of the Black Sea. With over 350 kilometers of coastline and hours of sun every summer, millions of visitors head to the resorts and beaches of the coast.
